Neuromuscular Dentistry

Neuromuscular dentistry is a treatment approach that promotes a higher level of respect for the nerves, muscles, and jaw joints of our patients.  For patients undergoing major restorative work, this means that both the level of comfort and the long-term sucess of the treatments are raised to a higher level.

Additionally, the equipment and techniques used in a  neromuscular dentistry approach allow us to predictably treat many types of chronic jaw problems which are often a result of years of breakdown of the chewing system and it's surrounding structures.  Problems with the "TMJ", or more properly the  Temporo-Mandibular Joint, will frequently express themselves as pain, either in the jaw joint itself, or in the muscles of the face, neck, or shoulders.  By looking at the whole system from this perspecitve, we can often very successfully treat otherwise stubborn pain conditions of the head, neck or jaw joints.  Additionally, this approach allows us to break the dissapointing cycle of failed dental treatment in which these patients often become stuck.  The neuromuscular approach provides what is often a fresh perspective by considering overall health of a complex system rather than simply focusing on a  tooth by tooth approach.
