Teeth Whitening
Your teeth will darken over time. Changes in the color of your teeth can be caused by such factors as the food and beverages consumed (like coffee, tea and soda). Other known factors for discoloration may include childhood medications or illnesses, tobacco use or improper oral hygiene. Restoring your natural white smile is a priority for our dental whitening team. We can provide a variety of options for whitening your smile.
1. Zoom Whitening
If you would like to whiten your teeth with a minimum of fuss, we offer the Zoom system of in-office whitening.
This safe and effective system can give you the instant results you've been wanting. A specially designed light activates the Zoom! Whitening Gel to gently break down stains on your teeth to put the sparkle back in your smile! The process takes an office visit of about two hours.
Zoom! Whitening is very safe while under the supervision of a trained dentist. It is one of the safest procedures in cosmetic dentistry. However, we do not recommend this procedure for pregnant women or children under age 13.
You will be given some post-whitening care instructions after your procedure. It is important to maintain a good oral hygiene regimen post-whitening to preserve your bright, white smile. We also recommend occasional touch-ups with the Zoom! Take-Home Gel. Your smile will always be brighter than it was before the procedure, but by following these simple instructions, you can retain your results for a long time!
Although the Zoom! System can help almost anyone, it may not be as effective in every case. We can determine if tooth whitening is a possible option for your case.
2. Custom Take-home Trays
For some types of persistent discolorations of teeth, it is necessary to use home trays to provide the bleaching product longer times of contact with your teeth. These trays are worn each day for about two hours, and a gradual whitening effect will take place. Also, these trays can be used to "update" your tooth shade at a later date.
Additional Information
- dental work that you have in your mouth will not generally change shade, so replacement may become part of your treatment plan and is not included in the cost of the whitening procedures.
- some tooth or gums sensitivity is common with most whitening procedures, but is fortunately a short-term side effect. If your teeth are already very sensititve, your dentist will need to know that information.
- the effects of whitening of your teeth may slowly fade, but not usually for at least a year or more. Touch-up treatments either in-office or using your take-home trays may be required in the future.
- Some types of stains or discolorations will whiten better than others. Brown stains from smoking or tea or coffee are fairly easily removed. A general yellowing of the teeth usually responds well to whitening as well. A general greyness of the teeth, or tetracycline stains of the teeth is the most challenging type of stain to whiten, and usually requires persistent use of the take-home trays, sometimes for many weeks.
- touch-up bleaching product for later use in your take-home trays is available through our office for a minimal fee.
